Exterior
This middle of the range 1300 GL example is truly exceptional in its originality and preserved condition. Finished in Ford Sahara Beige (code C6) the paintwork is excellent with a bright polished shine and impressive finish. There is evidence of remedial paintwork carried out over the years and some minor historic touch ups but nothing that detracts from the overall appearance. All original panels are straight and display uniform gaps. The underside is structurally sound and has been recently undersealed to provide further protection for years to come. The bright trim sections and badging is fully intact and remains in excellent order aside from a small area of damage to the rubber of the front offside bumper corner. The supplying Ford dealer number plates, and tax disc holder remain fitted. A truly excellent example of this classic Ford preserved just as the manufacturer intended.
Interior
A near perfect interior to absolutely delight the originality seeking enthusiast. The original chocolate fabric interior (code j1) is very clean and has been preserved impeccably with no wear to the coverings. The matching cut original pile carpeting is good but a bit fluffy in places as you would expect. Vinyl door cards are pristine with just a small bit of cracking to the drivers arm rest. The headlining is fully intact and looks perfect. The dashboard displays no cracks whatsoever and houses fully functional switchgear, controls and gauges as well as the factory fitted push button radio. The boot area houses the original vinyl mat, all the tools in the hessian sack and the spare wheel with a brand new tyre. The paintwork in the boot is 100% original and beautifully preserved. A superb rare surviving classic Escort interior remaining true to the Ford product, complete with nostalgic period scent!
Engine & Transmission
Refreshingly simple, this model is fitted with the 1300 OHV ‘kent’ crossflow engine that runs like a swiss watch, starts on the button hot or cold with no smoke, rattles, leaks or tappet noise. The engine bay has been wax oiled at some point in its life but is wonderfully unmolested with original strut tops and wiring. The four speed all synchromesh gearbox is light, exact and effortless reflective of the incredible low mileage.
History File
Registered new on 1st March 1976 by Ford Main Dealer Zenith Motors, Commercial road London this wonderful Escort has had just one family owner in 40 years. First keeper Mr George Stanley Castledine owned the vehicle until his passing. Bequeathed to his Wife in the will who shortly retired from driving and passed on the car to her daughter, the vehicle has continued to be cherished and strictly garage stored whilst enjoying minimal use, resulting in the amazing low mileage of just 66,463. The history file consists of the original bill of sale, Superguard certificate for anti-rust corrosion preventative, previous MOT certificates, 2 Ford service books with mainly Ford service stamps and invoices to help warrant the low mileage.
Holding immense appeal for any enthusiast or collector wanting an original, unmolested and truly treasured Mk2 Escort. A rare opportunity.
